A DESIRE to be part of the “greater good” prompted Zoe Norton to establish Blue Wing Care Professionals coming up five years ago.

“While I was working at the NDIS and listening to participants’ stories, I was continuously given feedback on how I made them feel, no matter how hard life gets, even at rock bottom,” Ms Norton explains.

“Clients would say that I always supported and cared for them and was able to connect them to the right service.”

Ms Norton said at the time she made the decision to set up Blue Wing Care Professionals she was raising her school aged daughter, who was born with Cerebral Palsy.

She had also supported and cared for her mother during a period of palliative care.

“Although devastated at the time I felt compelled to help others who were facing similar experiences,” she said.

With a staff of 200 ranging from care workers to allied health and support coordinators Blue Wing Care Professionals offers in-home and community care, including complex care, as well as speech therapy, occupational therapy, support co-ordination and plan management.

“At Blue Wing Care Professionals, we pride ourselves on taking a holistic approach to the entire family, not just the participant,” Ms Norton said.

She cited the example of Kayla, who went from being an independent 18-year-old to someone who required 24-hour care.

She needed a wheelchair for mobility, had weakness in her arms and legs and needed modifications to her family home.

“With this sudden shock event her mother really struggled to come to terms with her situation. As my team and I started working with Kayla it was imperative to take a holistic approach to the situation,” Ms Norton said.

“We took it slow to help Margaret and Kayla feel comfortable every step of the way.

“We introduced in-home support as well as therapists to prescribe equipment and modify their home.

“Margaret and Kayla now have room to breathe and feel relief. I still remember Margaret saying that an angel had sent me to her.

”To celebrate the opening of the new Beenleigh office and Therapy treatment rooms, Blue Wing Care Professionals and the team are hosting a family-friendly opening day for Beenleigh locals.
