Logan Metro Football Club is a step closer to rebuilding its home after it was destroyed in a devastating blaze early this year.

Locals have flocked to support the club since the 7 January fire, which consumed almost all club’s equipment, with one local business, Battery World Browns Plains, recently donating $6000.

Franchise partner Leif Belton said helping the club was a “no-brainer”, describing Logan Metro FC as not only a club but a ‘family’ for those who need one.

“As someone that grew up in a similar area with limited opportunities and living in Logan for many years when I first moved to Brisbane, I know just how important this footy club is for young people that desperately need a sense of belonging and purpose,” Mr Belton said.

“It does so much more for the community than just teaching kids footy, it keeps our children off the streets, doing something they can be motivated and passionate about.”

Logan Metro Football Club president Sam Escobar said businesses like Battery World help the club to help others.

“For many, this is their home during the season,” he said.

“Sport is such a powerful tool when it comes to connecting people and inspiring them to achieve whatever they put their minds to.

“Many of our players come from disadvantaged backgrounds and rely on our club to be their advocate in life.

“We need to be there for our players, be rooting for them no matter what, and provide a space they can truly thrive in.”

Mr Escobar said the club was hoping to be up and running as soon as possible.

“We currently up and running albeit with temporary facilities, several of our teams having already started the season – our juniors start in two weeks,” he said.

Battery World Browns Plains’ donation will help fund new jerseys and essential equipment for players.

“To everyone that came and supported us, we say thank you,” Mr Escobar said.

“We’re looking forward to continuing to power the local community and giving our rival teams a run for their money in the season ahead.”
