Disability gateway now open

People living with disability now have a dedicated one-stop website and phone line, The National Disability Gateway, to provide them with advice and up-to-date information on services and programs.

The disability community is very diverse and finding information about policies, programs and support can be a challenge.

The Disability Gateway is fast, easy to use and offers a range of accessible features for people with disability, including an Easy Read toggle on every page.

It is complemented by a 1800 phone line staffed with people with lived experience in supporting Australians with disability.

In creating the website, the government worked extensively with the disability sector to build a fit-for-purpose source of information that will help the disability community to easily access advice and referral services.

The site will help people find a range of support, from locating advocacy services, finding a sporting team that meets the needs of a person’s disability, identifying local disability-related events and links to help with discrimination or legal problems.

It spans multiple sectors including health, housing, employment, transport and everyday living.

The website can be found at www.disabilitygateway.gov.au or phone line at 1800 643 787 (available Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm). People with disability who need support in another language can also contact the Gateway on 1800 643 787 and ask for an interpreter.
