Council will this week endorse a five-year plan to ensure we can better manage growth and set a clear plan for the future.
We are creating a city that is more sustainable and one that plans ahead with carefully managed growth.
This includes unlocking employment areas by zoning more land for industry to create jobs, while also protecting semi-rural lifestyles, and our precious environment.
It’s important that future development is not so spread out. That’s what the 2025 Planning Scheme will enable us to do.
But that’s not all. The plan looks at emerging communities such as Bahrs Scrub, Park Ridge and Logan Reserve.
We are also helping to protect residents by mitigating against natural hazards such as floods.
With our new council we are creating a fresh vision and this is one of the most significant pieces of work we will undertake.
The scheme will be based on in-depth research done by council and will be driven by extensive feedback from the community and other stakeholders.
State Legislation requires council to undertake at least one period of formal (statutory) public notification during the plan-making process.
To ensure maximum community feedback, we will undertake an extra year of non-statutory consultation before any policy changes are considered.
The initial consultation, which will include workshops, forums and advisory sessions, will begin later this year.
This comprehensive review of the planning scheme has been a real team effort and I congratulate the council officers who have worked so diligently on this.
To make it work, we also need to get the regional plan right to make sure we don’t do all the heavy lifting for SEQ.
We have been burdened with the heavy lifting for a long time with the satellite areas of Flagstone and Yarrabilba.
City of Logan’s population is expected to hit 500,000 within the next 20 years.
I am always fighting to get a better deal for Logan.
The 2025 Logan Planning Scheme will help us achieve this with a blueprint to benefit future generations.
