Barrel load of cash up for grabs

Logan’s skateboarders can ditch the ramps and taking on keg jumping with a barrel-load of cash up for grabs at Burleigh Brewing’s Keg Jump competition on Saturday 19 August.

For the first time since its inception four years ago, the competition, which sees skateboarder’s jumping over beer kegs, will be held at Distillery Road Market in Eagleby.

Skaters from around the country will compete for a $5000 prize pool.

The winner is determined by whoever successfully clears the most number of beer kegs, earning them the ‘Burleigh Golden Growler’ trophy.

This year’s competition will be complemented by a live art challenge featuring local street artists – Tervo, Smalls, Gourami and Gus Eagleton.

The four artists will compete to create murals under strict conditions, including basing the mural on a theme and using set colours that will be announced on the day.

Last year’s winner, Dani Campbell, broke the record with a whopping 14-keg jumps to take out the 2022 title, beating the previous year’s record of 11 kegs by 3 kegs.

Keg Jump 2023 features local skating legends Pedro Day (Brisbane), Mike Lawry (Brisbane), Jesse Noonan (Gold Coast) and Jackson Pilz (Sunshine Coast), as well as a slew of other talented street skaters from around Australia.

Brisbane local skater, coach and mentor Patty G (Pat Gemzik) will keep the crowds roaring as the competition MC, while the best trick judging panel of recognised skateboarding figures includes SLAM Magazine Editor, Trent Fahey, and former professional skateboarder and two-time Australian street skateboarding champion, Trent Bonham.

Following the completion of the competition and the crowning of the winner, attendees will be treated to an after-party with live music that will make hearts race, with an exciting line-up including local music legends Chutney and Heavy Wax.

Burleigh Brewing will be pouring the brews and local food truck vendors That Gelato Co., Vagabond Foods and The Fried Guys will be serving up an abundance of delicious eats, along with on-site food outlets Sugar Creek Smokehouse and Posadas Cantina.
