Your new Logan council is getting straight to work.

As part of that, we’ve just appointed some important roles.

I’m pleased to announce Scott Bannan is your new Deputy Mayor and the Chair of the City Infrastructure Committee.

The popular Division 9 Councillor has a background in concreting and earthworks.

He’s also been an events promoter and firefighter.

We will work closely together, and I expect, along with helping other Councillors during disasters, he will host some epic community events.

The most experienced chairperson, Division 12 Councillor Karen Murphy, has put her hand up to lead both the very busy Governance Committee and the new Special Budget Committee.

While the two committees are related, they’re a lot of work dealing with the financials, policies, risk management and corporate governance of the Council.

The Special Budget Committee holds eight meetings a year to support the decision making for Councillors through the annual budget process.

These can be some of the longest and most challenging meetings, but Cr Murphy’s reputation for being a patient but stern Chair means she’s up to the task.

Tony Hall from Division 6 is the City Lifestyle Chair. Cr Hall served 9 months in the Chair role last year and felt he still had more to give and a lot to learn.

He is passionate about the work that this portfolio covers, especially community facilities, communication, libraries and sporting fields.

Tackling the largest and most complex portfolio is Miriam Stemp from Division 10, as Chair of City Planning, Economic Development and Environment.

She served as Deputy Chair of this committee for the last four years, and knows how critical it is for our rapidly growing city to balance the need for new houses and businesses while protecting and enhancing the environment.

The Mayor might be out there selling the city, but the Planning Chair oversees the details of how and where the city grows and what kinds of employment and investment opportunities there are.

It’s a really critical role to maintain a high quality of life for the residents of Logan.

Congratulations to all four councillors on their new roles.
