Statistics are helping support an argument that more southerners want to be part of our fabulous lifestyle.

But Queenslanders are also joining in.

According to a “flexible lifestyle survey” conducted by nbn, 33% of Queensland residents are looking to relocate to their ideal community after the pandemic.

Of those looking to relocate, 71% want to stay inside the state.

And 92% of us agree that having a more flexible lifestyle allows them to focus on what really matters in life, like their family and overall wellbeing.

Some 76% of Queensland workers agree that being connected is now more important than ever to achieve their ideal work approach, including being in locations other than the physical office.

This means many people are looking for a quieter lifestyle in regional areas – a decision the survey results said was driven by desires to save money, to live a quieter life away from the hustle and bustle of big cities, and to ensure they’re not putting off the things that make them happy until they’re too old to enjoy them.

Of those who want to remain in Queensland, more than three quarters (78%) of these are looking to move to a regional area, rate quiet streets and low traffic (73%), plenty of green space (67%), good health facilities (60%), and affordable homes (56%) as the most important features of their ideal community.

The desire to relocate was spurred by the experience of COVID-19 and the accompanying focus on remote work online, with almost half (47%) of Queensland residents saying they’ve wanted to move for a while but have only lately considered it a feasible option.

REIQ CEO, Antonia Mercorella said Queensland property has been in high demand and the recent trend in selling property online because of COVID-19 was seeing property move quickly.

“COVID-19 meant property inspections and auctions all had to be done a different way. We had to pivot quickly and capitalise on the digitisation of our industry,” Ms Mercorella said.
