Prefab housing puts roof over people’s heads quicker

Last week I joined the Minister for Communities and Housing, Leeanne Enoch, in Yatala to see first hand the work being done by one of our very own local small businesses via the government’s Immediate Housing Response package.

VOLO Modular will produce 52 homes with either two or three bedrooms each.

These will be delivered across the state in the coming months in a pilot project.

These completely locally-made, prefabricated homes will help vulnerable Queenslanders put a roof over their heads quicker.

The prefab homes cost about the same as a standard unit and some can be built in just four weeks, which fast-tracks the ability to get them on the ground, subject to works that are needed to be done on the individual sites, utilities, etc.

The homes are designed to fit on the back of a truck with the bulk being sent to rural and regional Queensland along with homes delivered in Ipswich, Logan, Central Queensland, and Wide Bay/Burnett.

Prefabricated social housing is just one of the tools being used by the state government to address housing pressure in Queensland.

Since last October’s Housing Summit, the state government provided $5.8 million to help 3000 Queensland households extend their tenancies as part of its $45 million Immediate Housing Response package.

Stakeholders are due to reconvene with government next month to discuss the progress that has been made over the past six months.

Anyone who needs housing assistance can contact their local Housing Service Centre during business hours or call the 24/7 Homeless Hotline on 1800 474 753.

Mallet club gets new courts

The Eagleby Twin Rivers Mallet club is set for an upgrade to their playing fields and are looking forward to increasing their game day capacity.

Construction at Bedford Park will provide the space with an extra two new courts and a modern space for locals and visitors alike to enjoy.

In conjunction with the Logan City Council, the Twin Rivers Mallet Club was awarded funds through the Queensland Government Active Gameday Projects grant to increase their community sporting space.

As the Olympics are set to come to Queensland in 2032, the Twin Rivers Community Mallet Sports Club Inc at Eagleby aims to be ready to showcase its sport to visitors at a top-notch facility.

As the only mallet club in the City of Logan, the club is proud to offer the opportunity for people of all ages to learn and play the fascinating game of croquet.

Maternity ward up for major upgrade

Logan Hospital’s Maternity Ward is set to receive a major upgrade, with the introduction of new birthing suites designed to provide a more comfortable and less clinical environment for expectant mothers.

These new suites will include a dedicated space for expectant mothers chosen support to stay and rest during their labour, as well as more significant space for different birthing options, including bigger bathrooms with two shower heads.

The state government has invested over $1 billion in expanding and upgrading Logan Hospital, with the addition of these new birthing suites being just one part of this significant project.

When complete, the hospital will have more than 300 additional beds, providing more comprehensive and accessible healthcare for the local community.

The staff have shown excellent efforts in engaging with the community to determine the requirements for the new birthing suites and keeping the needs of women in labour in mind, providing a calming and supportive environment to help future mothers feel more at ease during one of the most significant experiences of their lives.

With the new birthing suites, Logan Hospital will be at the forefront of providing outstanding maternity care, setting a new standard in the healthcare industry.

Logan Hospital’s Maternity Ward is an exciting development that will provide expectant mothers with a more comfortable and personalised environment during labour.
