98km per hour in a 40km zone

A MAN has been arrested after being allegedly clocked at 98km/hr in a 40km school zone.

The man, aged 29, was charged with speeding, evading police, and driving while his licence was suspended.

Loganholme police said they directed the driver to stop at about 3pm on March 10, along Bryants Rd at Shailer Park.

They found the driver at a nearby address where he was issued a notice to appear in Beenleigh court on April 24.

His car was impounded.

Police took the incident as a reminder for people to “drive smarter, not faster”.

“Exceeding any posted speed limit means that a driver has a restricted ability to respond to an unexpected emergency and can have severe consequences which can lead to tragedy,” they said.

“Speed enforcement patrols – both static and mobile – will not go away.

“All motorists should expect that police patrols will be active on the same roads and highways they are travelling, every day.”

Police issued a further five traffic infringement notices for exceeding the speed limit during this time to various drivers.

Police are reminding drivers to be safe and stay aware of your surroundings at all times when on the road.
