Radio star hits the high notes

Local born-and-bred radio star Margaux Parker is busy training her singing-voice for a charity show later this year, but locals can hear a sneak preview of her vocal prowess this weekend at Club Noir.

The Unsung Heroes event on 7 October will feature singing performances by eight local business leaders and celebrities.

Fundraising from the night will go towards The Carers Foundation Australia, an organisation dedicated to supporting carers and support workers.

To help boost funding, support and numbers, Triple M morning show co-host and Unsung Hero performer Margaux Parker is hosting a preview event titled “The C Word” on 5 August.

Mrs Parker said attendees would not only have access to champagne, charcuterie and cocktails – with an exclusive one called “the care-tini” – but also a chance to get up on stage and perform some “carer-oke”.

“The ‘C’ is honouring carers… and it’s an afternoon of all things fabulous starting with C,” she said.

“It will be an opportunity for people to get up and sing, which is how we can lend our voice to the real unsung heroes, carers, who have a really tough job.”

Mrs Parker said she would give Saturday night’s audience a glimpse of her singing ability, but she wouldn’t be revealing her song-of-choice for Unsung Heroes until the official performance.

“It’s a huge song by a really iconic artist and it’s going to be a big feat for me,” she said.

“I’m really nervous… but it’s for a great cause, and if I can use my voice for good then I’m happy to get on board.

“I use my voice on the radio to have fun and to entertain people in their cars on the way to work, and as much as fun as that is, Unsung Heroes is another opportunity for me to use my voice for people struggling and doing it tough, and to bring joy and hopefully a smile to somebody else’s face.”

Mrs Parker said attendees of The C Word would also be delighted by the special guests.

“Being the incredible musical superstars they are, Amy and Emma Sheppard have graciously said they would love to support the event and be there as our special guests.

“And they may even feature on-stage during carer-oke.”

She said she was “really looking forward” to what would be a “really fun afternoon”.

“I understand that many people are doing it a bit tough when it comes to extra money, but I’m hoping that they can find a way to dig a little deeper to support a great cause,” Ms Parker said.

“Come and have some fun, let your hair down and let the worries of the world go.”
