Yarrabilba is one of the City of Logan’s up and coming communities with a population expected to reach 50,000 once fully developed.
However, Yarrabilba it is not alone in its growth – the south-west area of our city is a major growth corridor. And while the growth comes with challenges of the need for vital infrastructure, council is working hard to ensure we deliver for the residents.
Just last week we opened The Buzz at Yarrabilba – a new community space delivered by council through an innovative partnership with the Queensland Government, Brisbane Catholic Education and Lendlease.
As part of our 2021/2022 budget, council made a commitment to invest in vital community infrastructure.
This facility is one those community facilities, which will help meet the growing demand for services and spaces in Yarrabilba.
The Buzz will work alongside the primary and secondary schools and existing community hubs and spaces already in Yarrabilba to provide even better services for the Yarrabilba community and the surrounding district.
It will provide a variety of spaces for the community to lease, and it will also enable the community to access valuable social, employment, innovation and financial services.
TAFE Queensland will also be moving into the precinct providing further learning and development opportunities for the people of Yarrabilba much closer to home.
And while Yarrabilba is one of the newest parts of our city, its proximity to one of our historic suburbs, Logan Village, adds to the city’s unique connection of rural and urban communities.
The Buzz complements Council’s investment in the popular Logan Village Green. The two suburbs were connected last year when we opened the Logan Village to Yarrabilba Rail Trail. The rail trail has played an important role in connecting the new and old.
Divisional councillor, Laurie Koranski has been instrumental in advocating for these projects that are not only important to the immediate communities, but they also provide important facilities to the surrounding growth areas.
I’m proud to be part of a council that is committed to proactive projects that deliver for these young, growing communities.
