Police blitz in full swing

Twenty per cent of offenders charged within the first 24-hours of a new specialist police operation were from Logan.

Last week, the Queensland Police Service deployed a range of highway patrol, water, dog, drug and intelligence police to hit the streets of Logan and Ipswich.

Their goal was to target ” high-risk property crime offenders causing harm in the community”, such as car theft, robbery, assault and domestic violence.

There were 17 people charged within the first day alone, 13 from Ipswich and four from Logan.

One offender was a 13-year-old Eagleby boy allegedly involved in six break-ins spanning both Logan and the Gold Coast.

Police allege he smashed the windows of multiple businesses to gain entry, before stealing cash from inside.

He was also charged over the alleged theft of a car from a Wagner Street property at Eagleby on 21 March.

The boy was charged with six counts of enter premise and commit, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of attempted enter premise and commit and possession of tainted property.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Beenleigh Childrens Court.

Deputy Commissioner for Specialist Operations Cheryl Scanlon said the new operation was aimed at “keeping the community safe” while supporting frontline general duties officers.

“This is a really important piece of work in protecting the community while also making sure that our community feels safe,” Deputy Commissioner Scanlon said.

“We are targeting high-risk individuals that are causing the most harm in our community.

“This is also about supporting local police on the ground and making the best use of our specialist resources to support local efforts in driving down crime.”

The operation will soon be rolled out in other areas across the state.
