The City of Logan has swung back into action as we look forward to an exciting year ahead.
Last week I was pleased to join my mayoral colleague, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner as we switched on the traffic lights at the Rochedale/Priestdale road intersection on the border of Logan and Brisbane.
Used by nearly 20,000 motorists every day, the intersection will also make a difference with this week’s back-to-school rush and the schools located nearby.
With funding support from the federal government and both our councils, the $24 million intersection upgrade is a win for our two cities, resulting in improved safety and traffic flows.
This is great example of three governments working together to deliver an important piece of road network in our city.
Looking ahead, this week we will welcome 110 new citizens to the city with our first Citizenship Ceremony for the year on Australia Day. This will be a combined ceremony as we also recognise some extraordinary citizens through our Australia Day Awards.
I look forward to continuing to advocate for the City of Logan this year to ensure we get our fair share.
We are now well underway with our new planning scheme, which will guide the city’s growth to help deliver well-designed, liveable neighbourhoods and opportunities for future investment and jobs across a rapidly growing city.
We will continue to push ahead for Olympic glory and advocate to the Queensland government to support a business case for a multi-functional venue in Logan Central in the lead up to 2032.
We will continue to fight the good fight against Inland Rail and look forward to the outcome of the independent review being undertaken by Dr Kerry Schott.
And while there is so much to look forward to, we know there will always be some challenges.
As a council we are committed to being fiscally responsible while still delivering for our residents. We know this year’s budget will be one of the hardest this councillor team has had to deliver but we will continue to work as a team to make sure we deliver for our community.
With school going back this week it’s also a good reminder that school zones are back up and operating so take care on the roads, be kind and be patient.
I wish all our students a great first week back.
