The break over Christmas and the new year is always a good time to relax, recharge your batteries, and reassess your goals for the year ahead.
When thinking about my own goal setting and what I would like to see achieved for our local community in 2023, I couldn’t go past a number of key commitments from my election campaign.
During the 2022 election, I was proud to have been able to secure vital local infrastructure commitments from the Liberal National Party.
These included projects to support our local sporting clubs and young people within the city of Logan, such as $5 million towards upgrading Beenleigh’s tennis complex and $3.6 million to fund improvements for the sports club at Hammel Park in Beenleigh.
Community safety was seen as a top priority, with $1 million committed to upgrade the CCTV network across Logan City.
Finally, and most significantly, funding was allocated to the next step in addressing traffic issues along the M1.
$55 million was committed towards a $110 million upgrade the M1’s Exit 38 at Yatala, just outside Logan City, which would significantly address congestion issues for motorists throughout our region.
While the outcome of the election meant that these commitments were unable to be achieved, it has not stopped me in advocating for these projects.
I have written to both the Prime Minister and Treasurer, asking them to match these commitments and will do so again, as we approach the 2023 Federal Budget in May.
My goal for the new year is clear.
I will continue to fight for the commitments made by the LNP in Forde and support our incredible local community.
