Residents across Logan are all telling me the same thing: they don’t feel any safer, despite the Crisafulli Government’s slogans and billboards.
Premier David Crisafulli promised he’d fix crime and yet the break-ins, the car thefts the hooning and the repeat offending just keeps on happening.
Hard working sports club volunteers are tired that a lack of police means vandalism go uninterrupted.
The Logan community is simply asking where is this supposed change we were promised?
All I’ve seen is photo ops and no follow up.
We are seeing catchy slogans and fudged figures and so it’s no wonder people’s homes are still being broken into and cars stolen.
The Crisafulli Government promised before the election the new laws would be matched with crime prevention programs that are few and far between.
We are still waiting for the gold standard early intervention.
It’s why I’m calling on the Crisafulli Government to do more in their upcoming budget to give Logan more police and additional community safety initiatives.
I have formally called for an additional 16 police officers from Rochedale South to Loganholme, to improve response capacity across from the north to the south and everywhere in between.
I am calling for the strategic placement of additional safety and security cameras at known vandalism hotspots including Underwood Park, Homestead Park and Usher Park.
And we’ve put the case for extra security cameras to be funded for key intersections where unwanted elements gain access to our community or make their getaway.
Cameras monitored by the Queensland Police Service in conjunction with Logan City Council officers can provide the sort of modern policing our community needs, so they can respond faster to incidents as they are reported, deter repeat offending before it escalates and support the efforts of our dedicated local neighbourhood watch groups.
I am also pushing for our police facilities right across the Logan community to be upgraded to ensure they are fit for modern policing, starting with the police beats at Rochedale South and Springwood.
Right now there are serious reservations about the conditions they are being asked to work from.
Our community deserves safe parks and streets, and local cops deserve safe workplaces. If the Crisafulli LNP Government is serious about either, this budget is the time to prove it.
