Ninja Turtle’s fight in a beaten up Ford

Dressed as a Ninja Turtle and riding in a beat-up 1999 Ford Laser, a Logan local completed a mammoth journey across two states to raise money-needed money for charity– and he’s already gearing up for another walk on the wild ride.

David Bragg, 37, from Loganholme and his teammate drove 3500 kilometres through the outback from Wollongong to Mackay in a week-long journey for his first ever Shitbox Rally in May.

The Sh*tbox Rally is the Cancer Council’s largest fundraiser and this year raised more than $2.2 million, with Bragg’s team “Tyred and Exhausted” raising over $8500.

Box Rallies have become Australia’s largest private fundraiser for the Cancer Council, contributing over $30 million to research since 2010.

And Mr Bragg says he is hankering to go again.

“Cancer’s everywhere, I think everyone’s been touched by it somehow,” he said.

“Just getting the awareness out there and making people know that you can fundraise, and your fundraising does actually help people.

“And also the challenge and fun aspect of driving a rubbish car over three and a half thousand kilometres has been awesome.”

Mr Bragg is preparing for his next rally; a route from Rockhampton to Hobart via the Artesian Basin in a car worth $1500 or less, which will be held early next year.

But this time, his goal is to raise $10,000.

“I’ve  lost a few friends to cancer and the more we can raise the better,” he said.

At the end of each rally, drivers have the choice to buy their car back for $250 or it is auctioned in aid of the Cancer Council.

A Spring Rally will also be held October 15-21, travelling from Mackay to Darwin via the Savannah Way.
