I was delighted to officially unveil a new garden at the Kingdom Life Centre in Park Ridge recently, which I hope will become a living monument to our recently deceased monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
Mid-year Australians joined people across the world in celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, marking the 70th anniversary of her ascension to the throne on 6 February 1952
Despite the Queen’s sudden death, on 8 September 2022, the Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee Program proceeded as planned in honour of the Queen and her seven decades of service as Australia’s Head of State.
Among those who successfully applied to be part of the program was the Park Ridge Baptist Church, which was awarded almost $7,000 to plant trees outside the Kingdom Life Centre.
The program advised participants to ‘plant regionally appropriate species that enhance the tree canopy, and would also leave a legacy of its own, in the form of trees flourishing across the nation for Australians to enjoy into the future.’
The beautiful garden at Kingdom Life Centre was meticulously planned by Phil Hackett from Eden Trees, who has carefully placed each tree where they can reach their maximum potential and to complement each other as they grow.
Logan City Councillors Jacob Heremaia, Division 8, and Tim Fraser, Division 7, joined me at the recent official opening, hosted by Paul Jackson, from Park Ridge Connect.
There is a proverb that says, ‘A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in,’ nowhere is that more evident than in this case, and I am looking forward to watching these Jubilee trees flourish.
