I’M writing this column for MyCity Logan from Cairo, Egypt, where I am representing our great city at two important global conferences.
The first one I am speaking at is called the Quality of Life conference and is run by the United Nations’ organisation UN-Habitat.
It will flow into a second conference in a few days called the World Urban Forum, where about 30,000 people are expected to attend.
There are huge opportunities and benefits for Logan being part of these global initiatives.
As the only Australian city taking part in the Quality of Life conference, it’s another chance for me to put Logan on the map.
If you hadn’t heard, Logan is a pilot city in this program that exists to improve the quality of life in cities around the world.
Information about our city is measured and benchmarked against cities around the world and in a room with some of the brightest minds we share ideas about improving life for our residents.
I’ve met and collaborated with representatives from places like Vancouver, Egypt, Morocco, Tahiti and Saudi Arabia.
Even Google is here.
It’s an exciting experience to be a part of.
One thing that has really hit home to me is how well Logan is performing.
We really are a world leader in a lot of aspects about the quality of life, punching above our weight in areas like green space, air quality and safety.
Without the global perspective, it can be easy to take for granted how great life is in our city.
At this conference, leaders from around the world look up to us and what we are doing in Logan.
We are an ambitious and innovative young city, and the data backs this up.
It’s great to see how well we are performing.
Of course, all these wonderful stats don’t happen on their own.
They’re the result of a lot of hard work and combined effort from everyone in Logan.
Community groups, business owners, government and residents all working together for a brighter future.
