MARSDEN State High School’s Bill Turner Cup soccer team has finished in the top eight schools nationwide.
The team made the state final for the first time in a knockout competition which attracts about 850 teams throughout Australia.
The competition, for students aged 15 and under, has been running for 43 years, and although Marsden bowed out to Anglican Church Grammar, they’re holding their heads high to be one of the top schools in the country.
For a school noted as a high-level performer in rugby league, the school’s soccer excellence program is also paying dividends.
Led by coach Richard Greer and captain Caleb Butler, the team tapped into elite training programs to reach the state final.
According to the school, a number of players had standout performances throughout the tournament, including Caleb Butler, Ali Sina and Mitchwendall Moran.
“We hope to continue this success in the years to come,” a school representative said.
