Man weilding machette wounds police officer

A man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a police officer with a machete at Woodridge yesterday (18 May).

Police were called to a home at Kingston Road around 3.20pm following reports of a break and enter in progress.

The 29-year-old Murrarie man was found on the patio before he fled.

A foot-chase broke out, and a police officer, while trying to grab the man, was hit on the hand with a machette stolen from the Woodridge home.

The officer suffered a laceration to his finger and was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.

He has since been discharged.

The Murrarie man was taken into custody and charged with: one count each of serious assault of a police officer causing bodily harm whilst armed; grievous bodily harm; enter dwelling and commit; possession of a knife in public; and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was refused bail and is expected to appear before Beenleigh Magistrates Court today (19 May).
