Logan Eco Action Festival returns with celebrity guests

Celebrities like scientist Dr Karl and television presenter Ranger Stacey will champion sustainability at Queensland’s biggest environment festival.

Even David Attenborough’s ‘right-hand man’ and Aussie superstars Bluey and Bingo will make an appearance at the popular event.

This year marks the fifteenth Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF), which will be held at Griffith University’s Logan Campus on Sunday 1 June from 9am to 3pm.

The festival attracts crowds of more than 8000 every year.

Mayor Jon Raven said it was an educational day of fun and would have a positive impact on Logan’s community.

“As the youngest and fastest-growing city in Queensland, many Logan residents are open to innovative ideas and new ways to reduce, reuse, or recycle,” Cr Raven said.

“The presentations and workshops at LEAF will help them discover ways to reduce their environmental impact and make positive changes in their home, workplace, and community.”

Dr Karl, whose surname is Kruszelnicki, is widely known for hosting ‘Science Hour’ on Triple J, the radio station’s longest-running segment, where he answers science questions posed by listeners.

Known fondly as Ranger Stacey, Stacey Thomson hosted the Totally Wild television series, which showcased Australian animals and wildlife adventures from 1992 until 2021.

Dr Chadden Hunter, known as David Attenborough’s ‘right-hand man’ and longtime coveted filmmaker, has captured footage of animals across every landscape imaginable – from Antarctica to the Amazon rainforest.

His work includes documentary film series Planet Earth 1 and 2, Frozen Planet, and The Platypus Guardian set in Hobart, TAS, and released in 2023.

The Brisbane-based filmmaker and wildlife biologist will present a talk exploring his experiences as a wildlife filmmaker and discuss what it will take to save natural environments from the existential threat climate change presents.

The festival welcomes people of all ages and hopes to encourage conversations about sustainability and wildlife conservation through interactive workshops, talks, and activities.

“With live music, eco-friendly stalls, delicious food vendors, you can thrift to your heart’s content with Logan Wardrobe Rummage and take home a free native plant,” Cr Raven said.
