Locals called to celebrate 30 years of the Logan Art Gallery

The Logan Art Gallery is calling on locals to pick up a paintbrush and share what they love most about their city as it prepares to celebrate its 30th anniversary this year.

As part of the Love Logan project, community members will be given small canvases to create artworks depicting their favourite places, people, and experiences in Logan.

The finished pieces will be displayed later this year, offering a unique glimpse into the city through the eyes of its residents.

Mayor Jon Raven said the initiative would highlight the diversity and creativity of Logan locals.

“I can’t wait to see which parts of Logan inspire people’s creativity,” he said.

“Our city is made up of so many unique and interesting experiences.

We would love to display artworks from both our oldest and youngest residents and everyone in between.”

The Logan Art Gallery, which first opened its doors on 18 February, 1995, has played a pivotal role in supporting local artists.

To mark the milestone, the gallery will also showcase selected works from Logan’s extensive permanent collection, highlighting the talent that has emerged from the region over the years.

“Exhibitions during this milestone year will showcase the incredible works of our talented local artists,” Cr Raven said.

“Many of them started their careers here and have gone on to achieve national success, including Nicola Hooper and Chloe Wigg.”

Among those already taking part in Love Logan is Regents Park resident Xin Weng, who has painted the Berrinba Wetlands, a family picnic favourite.

“It is a nice place to hang out, so I wanted to paint it,” she said.

Residents keen to participate can register at loganarts.com.au/love-logan before collecting a canvas board from the Logan Art Gallery, Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct, or Logan’s major libraries between 8 February and 2 June.

Completed artworks must be delivered to the gallery between 24 June 24, and 1 July, and will be displayed in the gallery foyer from 18 July to 6 September.
