PEOPLE within the City of Logan have spoken with a resounding state government Labor victory at the weekend.
All seven ALP members of parliament from within the City of Logan have been returned.
Political experts are of similar opinions, saying that incumbency and stability were important during a pandemic.
They also said people had shown support for Labor’s decision to keep Queensland borders closed.
Even the most marginal of seats in the region, Springwood, looks like becoming a safe seat for Minister for Sport Mick de Brenni.
LNP candidate Kirrily Boulton was keen to fight the election on local issues – offering up money for parks and Springwood CBD growth.
Accusations of pork barreling and the associated bad press didn’t impact the Springwood vote, with Mr de Brenni retaining the seat with ease.
It was a similar picture in most electorates across the region. In Macalister, Melissa McMahon barely required the inevitable flood of preferences which would come from the Greens and indpendent and previous member Margaret Keech who currently has about 11% of the vote.
Ms McMahon has almost 45% of the vote.
Leeanne Enoch in Algester, Shannon Fentiman in Waterford, Cameron Dick in Woodridge, Linus Power in Logan and Duncan Pegg in Stretton all have unassailable leads.
All members were thanking their armies of supporters, particularly for braving the weather.
