We are still nine years away from the 2032 Olympic Games due to be held in Brisbane, yet just last week, Anthony Albanese and the Federal Government announced a review into numerous infrastructure projects, many that if cut, will affect you, your families and in turn, your day to day lives.
Federal Labor have called a review into more than 120 billion dollars worth of infrastructure projects, which puts many on the back burner, facing extensive delays, or even the chopping block completely.
Under the Former Coalition Government, infrastructure investment was part of our economic strategy to boost economic growth, increase the national economy and assist with the structural budget repair.
The Labor Government has already committed close to 60 billion dollars to infrastructure projects over the next 4 years, only to call a review now.
More importantly, this would also jeopardise our city when it comes to the 2032 Olympics, making travel for all of us a lot harder than it really needs to be.
It seems all the Labor Government want to do is continue to cut costs when it comes to upgrading our roads, rail and community infrastructure.
Some local projects that are set to be reviewed include:
Project & Total Cost                                                                   Brisbane to the Gold Coast (Kuraby – Beenleigh Faster Rail Upgrade) – $2.242m
Gold Coast Rail Line Capacity Improvement (Kuraby to Beenleigh) – Preconstruction – $356.2m
Relocation of Loganlea Station – $95m
Beenleigh Station Commuter Car Park – $30m
Loganlea Station Commuter Car Park – $30m
M1 Pacific Motorway – Daisy Hill to Logan Motorway – $1b
Beenleigh Connection Road – City Road Intersection Upgrade, Beenleigh – $8m
Beenleigh-Beaudesert Road Upgrade, Beenleigh – $10m
Chambers Flat Road Upgrade, Park Ridge – $28.8m
Coomera Connector Future Stages Business Case – $22m
I urge the Prime Minister – Anthony Albanese, and Infrastructure Minister – Catherine King to think carefully about the impact of these cuts and how they’ll affect our local communities in the long term.
