I know the RBA’s recent announcement of yet another interest rate rise will come as an unwelcome shock to many, including the hardworking families of Logan.
It comes after a year of already skyrocketing costs – rent, mortgage repayments, utilities, and groceries.
When I speak to locals about the things they care about, it’s always the same response.
Times are tough right now.
That’s why the state government has been working to deliver cost of living relief to you and your family, and why we will keep delivering that relief in the months ahead.
The Premier has already said that next month’s state budget will include an electricity rebate for households even bigger than the $175 rebate we delivered last year.
Because when Queenslanders ask for help, we deliver.
And that is exactly what next month’s state budget will do.
It will deliver, just as we have already delivered an annual $372 electricity rebate for seniors and pensioners.
However, we know that only a third of eligible Queenslanders are taking advantage of it, so if you haven’t already, make sure to contact your energy provider.
And that isn’t all we have delivered for pensioners and seniors.
Eligible concession card holders are entitled to discounts on their car rego, half-priced public transport, a $120 discount on their water bill, and a $200 discount on their annual council rates.
We know that the cost-of-living pressure is hitting young people too.
That’s why we recently announced that the price of learner licences would be cut by more than half, from $186 down to $75.
And by offering fee-free TAFE, we’ve allowed countless Queenslanders to save thousands of dollars while setting themselves up for better, more secure jobs.
The state government has a strong track record of delivering cost of living relief for Queensland.
That is why Logan residents can be confident that next month’s state budget will continue to deliver for them and their loved ones.
