Land has been earmarked for a new high school in one of Logan’s fastest growing areas.
Greenbank recorded more than 13 per cent population growth in 2023, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics estimates, the second highest growth in the city.
To keep up with such rapid demand, the government is now negotiating a deal that could see a secondary school be built for the Greenbank and Greater Flagstone Area.
Land opposite Everleigh State School on Anderson Drive has been earmarked by Education Queensland.
A timeline for the project is yet to be determined.
However, local MPs said the monitoring and analysis of the area’s population growth would help determine the timeline, with the opening year to be linked to student enrolment growth.
“The opportunity to secure a site for a future high school for the Greenbank / Greater Flagstone area is very exciting,” Logan MP Linus Power said.
“Once the land is secured, site specific planning for construction can begin.
“We opened a new primary school in Greenbank, Everleigh State School in 2022 with 200 students and we are now progressing Stage 2 of this growing school.
“[Jordan MP Charis Mullen] and I have worked with the community to get this commitment and will continue to work with the local community to get the best outcome.”
He said the possible site of the school would make for a “fantastic educational precinct in close proximity to the Regional Sport and Recreation Park which is already taking shape”.
Ms Mullen thanked local families who spoke with the government about securing a new school for the area.
“I am thrilled to make this commitment to our Greenbank & New Beith communities and planning for the new high school can progress in line with student population growth,” she said.
“With two primary schools now in the area – Greenbank State School and Everleigh State School, we know that student numbers will continue to grow.
“We have advocated strongly to secure a site and provide certainty to local families that we will deliver a new high school for Greenbank.”
