The Logan Ratepayers Association is set to change its name, with a goal of representing all Logan residents, says president Rod Shaw.
The move, set to be tabled at the next public meeting on Saturday October 8, would see the name changed to ‘Logan Ratepayers and Residents Association’, Mr Shaw said.
“We have always tried to represent the interests of the whole city, and all residents, but we realised our name created a form of barrier to the many people who call Logan home, but who are not necessarily ratepayers,” Mr Shaw said.
“So we are putting forward a motion, to be voted on by all members, changing the name to the Logan Ratepayers and Residents Association, so we can properly represent everyone.”
While the name change is a key agenda item, Mr Shaw said there would be a number of guest speakers at the October 8 meeting, including Melanie Goodman, raising issues of concern about the Eagleby Wetlands, which is at risk of being destroyed by the planned ‘Coomera Connector’ for the Pacific Motorway.
“We also have Nate Hamon, speaking about concerns over the Eagleby Aquatic Centre’s future, as well as Shane Remington and former Logan mayor John Freeman.”
The meeting, at the Eagleby Community Hall, runs from 12pm to 4pm, with visitors asked to make a gold coin donation to help with the cost of the meeting, including hiring the hall, Mr Shaw said.
“We would love to see as many people as possible at the meeting, we hold them in different parts of the city, so that everyone gets a chance to have a voice about the future of Logan.”
