From a gym member to a co-owner

Slacks Creek mum of two teenage boys Karlee Lowe went from being a member of a gym to co-owning it – she is one of the amazing mums we are celebrating this Mother’s Day.

Mrs Lowe became a member of Fitstop Slacks Creek in 2021 and loved it so much, she became a fitness trainer there, then went into management and for the past two years she has co-owned it.

“I’ve been in the fitness industry for nine years and Fitstop really aligned with how I believe people should train, supported, coached, and part of something bigger,” she said.

“After working my way through different roles and seeing the impact we were having on members’ lives, stepping into ownership felt like the natural next step.”

Mrs Lowe said managing a gym and family life could be a juggle.

“Some days feel seamless and other days feel like chaos, but I’ve learnt to embrace both,” she said.

“Having a supportive family and building routines has been key.”

“I’ve also learnt to prioritise what actually matters and let go of the rest.”

Mrs Lowe said her boys – Ari, 15 and Kyan, 13 – have grown up around the gym.

“I try to lead by example, showing my kids what it looks like to commit to something, work hard, and show up even when it’s not easy,” she said.

“They keep me very busy, but they’re also a huge part of why I do what I do.”

Mrs Lowe said as a mum there was always this “feeling of wanting to be everything to everyone.”

“You don’t have to choose between being a great mum and chasing your goals,” she said.

“I was really grateful to be able to stay home and raise my boys for 6 years, but I also realised at a certain point that I needed to find me again, something that was mine, that filled my cup and gave me purpose outside of being a mum.”

“Don’t wait until you feel ‘ready’, you probably never will.”

Mrs Lowe said her goals for the future include growing the business and creating more work life balance.

“I want to continue growing our community at Fitstop Slacks Creek and keep raising the standard of what we offer,” she said.

“On a personal level, I want to create more balance, being present with my family while continuing to grow the business.”

“Most importantly, I want my kids to see what’s possible when you back yourself and stay consistent, even when things feel hard.”
