Freeze! Logan’s newest police dog set to keep streets safe

A new police dog will be joining Logan officers on patrol throughout the city’s streets.

The young pup, named Freeze, traded-in his normal collar for a ceremonial one at a graduation ceremony last week.

He was one of eight pups to graduate from Queensland’s first ever stand-alone dog graduation, following a 12-week training course.

Freeze will join 110 other dogs already in the Queensland police force, making it the largest canine unit in Australia.

There are 23 other dogs still in training.

Senior constable Rory Nikora described police dogs as “the perfect combination” of instinct and training, serving as both guardians and enforcers of the law.

“They are essential partners using their keen instincts and unwavering dedication to protect and serve our communities,” he said.

Six new handlers were awarded their QPS Canine Service Medallions alongside the newly-graduated pups.

One of these officers will be deployed to Logan with Freeze.

“We’re thrilled to welcome additional Dog Squad officers into the QPS and this graduation marks 27 dogs that have joined this year,” David French, the Queensland Police Service’s (QPS) acting assistant commissioner of the operations support command, said.

“The tactical support the handlers and their animals offer to front-line officers will greatly contribute to community and officer safety.

“We look forward to all the wonderful work these new officers will do for the Service and the community.”
