Police are sending alerts for all schools on their first day.
But one in particular is coming in for higher scrutiny at Park Ridge.
Not only is this the first day for students, but the first day for the school itself, Corymbia State School at 450 Park Ridge Road a brand new learning facility.
Police warn there will be significant traffic congestion during school drop-off and pick-up times.
The primary school will open on January 28, and due to incomplete road infrastructure, parents must use a secondary access road for entry, police said.
“Traffic congestion is expected between 7am to 9am and 1.30pm to 4pm,” they said in a statement.
“Police officers and traffic control officers will be present to manage traffic flow during the first week of school to ensure the safety of all road users.”
To facilitate smooth traffic movement, the following detour is in place:
• Parents are advised to travel east along Park Ridge Rd and turn left into the school’s secondary access road.
• Upon leaving, vehicles can only turn left out of the school.
• Variable message signs will direct traffic north along Chambers Flat Rd to Bumstead Rd, then left onto Bumstead Rd to Clarke Rd, where they will again turn left onto Park Ridge Rd, approaching the school from the correct direction.
Motorists are urged to exercise patience and plan for potential delays. QPS appreciates the community’s cooperation as the new school community settles in.
