Seventeen fire trucks have responded to a fire in Kingston after residents heard a loud explosion near the intersection of Queens Road and Delton Street.
The Queensland Fire Department’s live incident dashboard currently shows three vehicles en route, with 14 fire trucks already on the scene and a response recorded at 1.08pm on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.
Queensland Police declared an emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act at around 2.30pm, saying officers were called after reports of “a business fully engulfed” on Queens Road.
A later statement said that the emergency declaration was revoked at 4.05pm.
It has been reported that at least one person was taken to hospital, having suffered leg and hand burns and is in a stable condition.
Nearby resident Garry C said he heard one loud “kaboom”.
“It was like watching TV news of a war when bombs take out buildings. Not a sharp bang like a gun, but deeper,” he said.
Large plumes of smoke have been reported billowing from the roof of a commercial building, as a police helicopter circled the area.
Queensland Fire Department have issued an Advice-level smoke warning, confirming the fire involved a commercial building on the corner of Queens Road and Delton Street.
QFD said firefighters had brought the large structure fire under control and there was no danger to the community, but smoke and a strong smell could remain in the area for several hours.
The department also said the fire involved multiple vehicles, with several Queensland Fire and Rescue crews remaining on scene.
An exclusion zone has been established while emergency services respond, encompassing Queens Road from Meakin Road to Allan Street and from Plain Street across to Scrubby Creek, with traffic being diverted away from the incident, as crowds of people began to form.
Residents have been urged to avoid the area.
