IT would seem the skills crisis is hitting the police force too.
In an effort to attract more recruits, an assessment fee of $215 will be waived to encourage more people to try their hand at the entry process.
The state government has also decided to waive a $20 physical fitness test charge
The program will last for six months and police minister Mark Ryan said it was a motivator for people who may have previously been discouraged to apply because of the costs.
Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said removing the fees would give more people the opportunity to join the service, as she revealed the QPS will soon host the biggest Open Day events in its history.
“We want to encourage every single person who is considering a career in policing to come forward and realise their potential,” Commissioner Carroll said.
“Removing potential barriers, such as the costs of cognitive and physical testing will certainly make it easier for people to apply.”
Mr Ryan said: “Policing can be a lifelong career with many different pathways. For anyone out there seeking real purpose, direction and meaning from their career, I really encourage you to join us on November 5 for a sensational day.”
