Shailer Park State School is the place to be this month!
The school has been busy with many different events from Prep Open Day to Under 8s Day to a Chappy’s Tea Party.
Linking with community and building partnerships is important at Shailer Park State School.
With such rich diversity within the school community, they are able to take advantage in accessing important knowledge to share with students.
Prep Open Day provided everyone in the community an opportunity to see what makes Shailer Park great.
Teachers arrived early on Saturday morning, 13 May, to put together some engaging hands-on activities for children ready to enrol in Prep for 2024.
“It was a fantastic chance for parents and carers to chat casually with teachers about what happens at the school, how Prep works and how teachers ensure students are catered for as individual learners in all areas of their development,” principal Karen Kuskey said.
The P&C association provided a free barbecue and Ms Kuskey led tours of the school.
Some highlights of the tour included the new basketball courts, upgraded amenities across the school and understanding how teachers work collaboratively in teams to ensure success for all. This is a popular annual event for Shailer Park.
“Play – You, Me and Our Communities” was this year’s theme for Under 8s Day.
Shailer Park decided to honour this year’s theme in a unique way by offering the opportunity to work closely with families from their school who are from different countries.
Parents could demonstrate to the children how they play through offering different cultural activities.
Children boarded a virtual aeroplane and ‘flew’ into their new destination countries around the ‘Shailer World’ for the day.
Deputy principal Kym Knox worked closely with community families, and teachers were able to provide experiences together from India, Serbia, Romania, Sri Lanka, Italy, Egypt, Vietnam, New Zealand, Mexico, Indigenous and Torres Strait Island and Canada.
The Chappy’s Tea Party is an event not to be missed.
It is a chance for children to invite a special person in their life to spend some quality time together.
Chaplain Timothy Nuske has been at the school for a number of years and has built strong links with the school and community.
Families had the time to enjoy the tea party with a photo booth and fun games to keep the evening rolling along. Grandparents, aunties, uncles and whole families attended the evening.
Shailer Park is now open for 2024 Prep enrolments, please touch base with the office to register your interest in enrolling.
