ENERGEX teams are pictured launching working with primary school students to launch this year’s Safety Heroes program.
The program was launched at Springwood Central State School, one of 98% of primary schools taking part in the project – the highest ever participation rate in the project.
Students were shown displays, including a mini electricity network and bucket truck.
“Kids, now more than ever, are using mains powered products, and Energex and Ergon crews are helping with resources teaching them to be electrically safe,” a spokesperson for the program said.
Meanwhile, Logan was the venue to show off latest drone technology being used to install “rotomarkas” on powerlines across the Logan River.
The project was at the request of the State Emergency Service who use rescue boats on the Logan River during emergencies such as the recent SEQ floods.Â
Traditionally rotomarkas have been installed by hand from a bucket truck but these were the first installed by drone making the task much faster and safer.
The new drones also have thermal imaging cameras on them and can detect faults along the network that crews cannot see from the ground or with the naked eye.
