Construction is underway on a long-awaited clubhouse for croquet players at Bedford Park at Eagleby, marking a significant step for a small but growing local club.
The project will give the Twin Rivers Community Mallet Sports Club its first permanent home since forming in 2010.
Eagleby residents who use Bedford Park have until now shared four croquet courts and a basic storage shed, with no reticulated water or private toilet facilities on site.
Club president Maia McGhee said members were pleased to see progress after years of planning.
“We have worked closely with representatives from the council who have taken our needs into account and we are excited to see it take shape,” Ms McGhee said.
The club house is being funded by the State Government and delivered by Logan City Council.
Logan Mayor Jon Raven said improving facilities for grassroots sport remained a priority for the city.
“Sports clubs like the Twin Rivers Community Mallet Sports Club add so much to the quality of life in our amazing city,” Cr Raven said.
“It gives local players a place to meet, play and grow their club for years to come.
“This is about backing our local clubs and the people who keep them going. When we build better spaces like this, more people can get involved and stay active close to home.”
The new clubhouse will include a meeting room, kitchenette and toilets, including an accessible toilet, aimed at making the space more usable for players and visitors year-round.
“Getting this clubhouse built is a big win for Logan,” Cr Raven said.
Division 12 councillor Karen Murphy said the facility would support the club’s future.
“The future clubhouse will also allow the club to grow their sport, increase their membership and host interstate tournaments,” Cr Murphy said.
At a state level, Sport Minister Tim Mander said the investment would help remove barriers to participation.
“The Queensland Government is proud to have contributed more than $82,000 to support this project, helping deliver a space that is accessible, functional and welcoming for all users,” Mr Mander said.
Construction is expected to be completed later this year.
