Dragons and lions heard at Chinese New Year

The sounds of dragons, lions, drums and bells will all be heard at the Logan Chinese New Year celebrations this Friday (9 February).

Logan residents have been invited to celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Chung Tian Temple at Priestdale.

With a range of foods, exhibitions and performances, the night will include:

  • 6.00pm: Vegetarian Food Fair – three seperate dining areas, Chinese tea ceremony, Water Drop Tea House, incense offering, red lantern display, Chinese calligraphy, Tai Chi display, arts and crafts, cultural performances, Temple 3 Good Deeds mascots, bonsai display.
  • 7.30pm:  “The Everlasting Star in Humanity” – a tribute to Venerable Master Hsing Yun exhibition opening
  • 8.30pm: Light Offering Service
  • 9.15pm: Shaolin Kung Fu Guan – Chinese Lion and Dragon Dance
  • 10.30pm: Traditional Buddhist morning chanting service
  • 12.00am: Ringing of the Blessing Bell

The Chinese Lunar calendar dates back more than 4500 years.

The organisers of this year’s event said everyone was welcome to celebrate the Year of the Dragon, as it was traditionally a time of  “compassion, friendship and protection”.

Entry and parking is free.

The Chung Tian Temple is located at 1034 Underwood Road, Priestdale
