Bethania resident Sharon Robertson says a $2 million upgrade to the Waterford–Tamborine Road (Kingston Road) and Nerang Street intersection at Waterford will address a well-known congestion spot.
“It is such a busy area and these changes will make it so much safer, especially at school times,” Ms Robertson said.
She was responding to an announcement by Member for Waterford Shannon Fentiman last week that the project would go ahead to improve safety for road users.
“We know our busy Logan community is growing fast,” Ms Fentiman said.
“Kingston Road is currently experiencing high levels of congestion during peak hours between Loganlea Road and Nerang Street.
“These upgrades to the intersection will allow for increased traffic numbers, as well as make it more user friendly for pedestrians with the addition of new footpaths.”
Ms Fentiman said additional capacity for vehicles turning into Nerang Street from BrisbaneBeenleigh Road has been needed to lessen the impact on other commuters traveling through the intersection.
“The works will include an additional right-turn lane which will help alleviate the demand and congestion currently experienced by motorists, as well as safety upgrades such as additional street lighting, safety cameras and signage,” she said.
“This will be welcomed by local commuters as well as businesses such as the nearby White House of Waterford.
“Design has been completed, with construction currently scheduled for mid-2021.”
