Childhood summit seeks 40 speakers, aged 4-14

A childhood summit later this year in Logan will give 40 children the opportunity to be keynote speakers.

The forum will be themed “Secret Lives of Children – What Adults Need to Know!” and offers up an almost adult-free menu of speakers.

After running successfully in 2019 and 2021, organisers said they hoped to build on previous efforts to allow children’s voices to be heard, validated, and acted upon, especially regarding their right to play.

Speakers, aged 4-14, will be invited to share their wisdom and insights and let grown-ups in, on the worlds they inhabit.

The Childhood Summit is coordinated by the Australian Institute of Play (AIP), a children’s not-for-profit charity that advocates children’s right to play, especially where they live.

This year’s summit will include themed child voice panel presentations, and a limited number of adult keynote presenters.

There will be children’s cultural presentations, a dedicated First Nations/Aboriginal child voice session, a pop-up loose parts play installation for the community, and child voice workshops.

Cultural demonstrations will feature Maori and Pacifika groups.

The event will be on June 23 and 24 at Griffith University’s Logan Campus.
