THE achievements of the Khieu family, and the impact they’ve had on the City of Logan, cannot be underestimated.
Paul is well known around town, not only for his role with the markets, but as an advocate for multiculturalism as a voice among many different groups.
He’s always seen it as a strength of our community, and after many years beating the drum, it would seem there’s a wave of people agreeing with him.
The markets have been about bringing people of different cultures together in one space to offer the local community fresh and cooked food that they’d regard as comfort food in their home countries.
Designed to be a venue by locals, for locals, the word quickly got around Brisbane and other parts of Southeast Queensland which meant the markets became one of the city’s prime tourist attractions.
Son Dean now gets the reins. Unlike his father, he starts with considerable momentum. He also starts with the support of some of Logan’s most influential bodies, none less than our council’s tourism arm.
Dean has plans to modernise the markets, but he’ll no doubt draw from his father’s inspiration as they continue to grow.
