INFRASTRUCTURE is such a boring word, used by politicians when they refer to the things we need – and the things they are empowered to build.
It’s also such a broad word, and can mean everything from a lamp post through to a multi-million-dollar road.
Governments of all levels spend an awful lot of time arguing about what they can afford, and what contributions they’ll need to “necessary infrastructure”.
It’s something which has been brought up often at local government level of late, and while most people will glaze over it as something they can’t influence, the results are critical to our future.
In Logan’s case, public transport isn’t a local government responsibility, but improvements are something politicians on the ground should be lobbying for.
The local government coffers are too light to be building all new roads and various types of pipe for water and sewerage, but the state government begs to differ, arguing rates management is a local jurisdiction.
This argument is one which may not interest many of us, but it impacts all of us.
Let’s hope our politicians at all levels of government can get together in a room at some point to ensure our communities grow with a degree of dignity.
