Kimberley College students have worked together to learn songs, perfect dances, develop characters and polish performances in preparation for the school’s production of Legally Blonde this August.
Kimberley College chose the musical for this year’s production because of the passionate and enthusiastic characters, uplifting narrative, and the irresistibly fun and energetic musical score.
“Activities within the performing arts space allow students to be creative and explore different ways to express themselves, all while having fun alongside their peers,” Kimberley College teacher and musical producer Bridget Bunker said.
Legally Blonde tells the story of Elle Woods (Samara Leeuwendal), a sorority girl who enrols at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend, Warner (Kate Gillespie).
With the help of her mentor, Emmett (Kane Brindley), and hairstylist turned confidant, Paulette (Ellie McKenzie), Elle becomes a successful law intern with unwavering morals and a determination to prove her worth.
Kimberley College Year 12 student Samara Leeuwendal in the lead role of Elle, decided to audition as she loves to sing and act.
“The rehearsals have been great. I have enjoyed hanging out with friends and the teachers have been so supportive,” she said.
“It really gets you out of your comfort zone and you just have to go for it. I am so much more confident now”.
Middle school student Kane Brindley in the role of Emmett agreed and said: “I’ve made a lot of new friends from across all year levels at Kimberley College that I didn’t know before and the atmosphere at rehearsals is really fun.”
Kimberley College film and TV studies teacher, and musical director, Hannah Larkin said: “I love the message the story conveys to students and audiences about the importance of staying true to yourself by trusting your morals.”

As they say in the musical, being true to yourself never goes out of style!
“Our cast have worked diligently for the past year in rehearsals, exhibiting true professionalism as they invested their time, and best effort into bringing this show to life,” Ms Bunker said.
“We can’t wait for them to stand on stage, feel the stage lights and hear the applause.”
The musical is just one of the extracurricular activities, events and sport on offer at the College.
