Battering from weather puts Logan cleanup in overdrive

Clean up crews are continuing to work across the city today in the aftermath of Christmas Day storms and New Year’s Day flood threats throughout Logan.

After Christmas Day’s horrific thrashing of Jimboomba and surrounding areas, more than 1600 people still remain without power and are unlikely to be connected until the weekend, according to Energex predictions.

Over the past two days, there has been moderate flooding around Wolffdene, South Maclean, Beenleigh and surrounding areas.

Other areas experienced minor flooding, and latest reports from the Bureau of Meteorology have shown some reprieve with falling river and creek levels this morning.

Homes in low-lying areas were forced to sandbag, mostly in light of flash flooding from heavy downpours from Sunday until mid-Tuesday afternoon.

Logan can expect two days of sunshine, albeit with a few clouds, and temperatures reaching into the early 30s.

Showers are predicted on Friday and into the weekend, with thunderstorms a possibility.

The Logan River reached its peak early this morning after upstream flows added to the local rain.

It hit 10.27m at Maclean Bridge which is regarded as minor in terms of flooding. There was also minor flooding at Parklands.

The Albert River was more severe, but levels have been quickly falling and are currently well below minor flood levels.
