Delicious fresh and cooked seafood and Logan’s new favourite fish and chips have arrived at Springwood Mall thanks to new café Fishboi, just in time for Christmas.
Combined with free Santa photos, gold coin gift wrapping, a monster Lions raffle and a locally-treasured nativity scene, Springwood Mall is packed with festivities this year.
Fishboi owners Connor Min and Ben Bae are excited to share their years of cheffing and extensive seafood experience with Springwood locals.
Both from South Korea originally and recent business partners through their shared experience and culinary vision in Australia, Connor and Ben have created a fresh fish market and delicious kitchen packed with flavours and gluten-free options at Fishboi.
Featuring a custom-labelled charcoal grill to create live fire cooking and their signature charcoal, smoky grilled seafood, Fishboi specialises in fresh and cooked seafood platters, mouth-watering burgers and elevated fish and chips cooked in a variety of ways.
Now living in Daisy Hill, Connor worked as a head chef at notable restaurants and hotels including Gambaro’s Seafood Restaurant in Brisbane, while Ben ran Bae’s Chicken and Burger in Gumdale for five years.
Both business partners are involved in the kitchen, front of house and the market.
“We have been thrilled with the response we have had from diners, who have loved the quality and flavour of our food and who have shared great feedback about our service and menu with us,” they said.
“By launching Fishboi we want to do something amazing locally and we are ready to take fish and chips to another level.
“We both grew up with charcoal cooking in South Korea, so introducing our customers to this style of seafood and burgers feels natural to us.
“We are excited to be part of the ‘Eats’ dining precinct and join the next generation of retailers at Springwood Mall, as well as offer fresh, quality seafood from Australia and New Zealand to support our local fishing industries.”
Fishboi’s Fish Market opens from 9am to 5pm daily and will take pre-orders for prawns, whole fish including snapper, red emperor, coral trout and salmon for collection on Christmas Eve.
The Café opens from 10am to 8.30pm every day and will only be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
In addition to welcoming new stores in recent months, Springwood Mall has begun the festive season with bright decorations including a treasured nativity scene that has been part of the centre for years.
Marketing Manager Donna O’Neill said feedback from customers about the nativity has been lovely, with many remembering the display as a Springwood Mall staple.
“We are thrilled to offer free Santa photos again this year from December 15 with no booking required.
“We also have the Springwood-Rochedale Lions Club back from December 13 to offer Christmas wrapping in exchange for a gold coin donation and to run their Monster Trailer Raffle, worth thousands of dollars, from December 18 to 22.”
Ms O’Neill said this year, customers had even more fresh food options to help them with their Christmas preparation in addition to Fishboi, including the new fresh fruit and vegetable store and the new butcher.
“Celebrating end of year parties can be done deliciously at our Eats dining precinct thanks to our Japanese, Korean, South-East Asian and Australian flavours and we will have a Malaysian restaurant opening soon.
“Plus, we have great new beauty stores offering skin rejuvenation, nails and massage to help customers cope before and after Christmas.
“After celebrating the centre’s $21m total refurbishment with promotions and events in August, it is wonderful to see Springwood Mall looking great to help customers with a one-stop Christmas shop this year.”
