Bush Poetry lovers are in for a feast with the Queensland Championships at the Beenleigh Show Society Hall on Saturday September 11 from 9am. Hope to see you there.
Meanwhile here’s one of my gems from a previous comp.
Wonderful Logan City.
The miners name was Luther, and he hoped as he arrived
to find gold in our river, in 1895
instead , on the sandy shore, a sparkling diamond sat
her name was Loretta, and to her he dipped his hat
it’s a beautiful day Miss , he greeted her and thought
holy mackerel , she’s all right, what a gorgeous sort
they wed, and one day at work, he saw a glint afar
in the direction of Mt Tambo , and he knew it was no star
there’s gold there in that hill he thought, “Solid Gold” he cried
so he hurried home to get the wife and move mountainside
but Loretta wouldn’t wear it, she said “Luther, I know it’s a pity
but all the gold in the world wouldn’t tempt me to leave…
Wonderful Logan City”
