Alice in Wonderland to arrive in Yarrabilba

Yarrabilba’s Village Green Theatre Group will perform Alice in Wonderland in July this year, and auditions are coming up.

Registration to audition for a role will close on 14 February, and auditions will be held the next day.

Show director Sue Barlow said all ages were welcome to try out for a part in the production.

“My daughter’s 14, and she’s always looking for auditions, and there’s never anything out there,” Ms Barlow said.

“We like to do at least one show a year that the youth can audition for.”

On the day, those auditioning will need to read from a script, available to download on the Village Green’s Website, sing for the panel, and learn a dance number that will be performed on the day.

“I’m looking for someone who’s confident and can carry the character they’re auditioning for,” Ms Barlow said.

“If their role has lots of solos, we’ll need strong singers and dancers, but it all depends on the role being auditioned for.”

Those auditioning can choose more than one role to audition for Ms Barlow said.

“I have one guy who’s put his name down for just about every role, which is great,” she said.

“But we get them to put their names down for roles in order of preference, of what they really want to play.”

Last year’s production, The Revenge of Captain Hook, was performed by a cast of roughly 30 people and nine crew members working backstage.

In the week since auditions have been open, more than 30 people have already registered for auditions.

Ms Barlow said it typically takes the cast and crew four months to get the show stage ready.

“Our first full cast rehearsal will be on 8 March,” she said. “I think my favorite is always the first dress rehearsal.

“That’s when the kids start to get really excited about their roles; it’s more than just learning lines.”

This will be Ms Barlow’s first year directing a Village Theatre Group show, but she has worked on previous productions backstage.

“I started off backstage and stage-managed one of the shows,” she said. “So I’ve seen what works and I’ve seen a few things that haven’t worked too.”

Six performances of the Village Green Theatre Group’s Alice in Wonderland will be held across 3,4,10,11 July.
