Term 2 has started with a big announcement for schools across Logan and right throughout Queensland.
Two months ahead of schedule, the Palaszczuk Government’s plan to air condition every state school classroom, library and staff room in Queensland has been delivered.
Despite the disruption of floods across most of the south-east earlier this year, the final few classrooms have been completed.
Ask any parent or teacher and they will tell you straight away – students learn best when they’re cool and comfortable.
Our Cooler Cleaner Schools Program supported around 1,000 jobs state-wide during the height of the pandemic, as well as a pipeline of work as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s economic recovery plan for Queensland.
Our investment also includes a $71 million boost to our Advancing Clean Energy Schools program.
That program sees solar panels installed on state school rooftops, dramatically offsetting the cost of running air conditioners.
Every state school in the Woodridge electorate now has solar panels in place to power their air conditioners, with Browns Plains State High School and Kingston State College having theirs installed in February this year.
Better ventilation and quality air conditioning also helps reduce air recirculation, which the pandemic has taught us is key in reducing the spread of airborne viruses like COVID.
I’d like to acknowledge the hard work done by P&C’s and school communities to support the installation of air-conditioning at their schools.
