Acreage lifestyle offers diversity of options

The property market has seen an increase in the demand for acreage living in the last couple of years, with families searching for homes with enough land to create a more sustainable lifestyle.

A 40-acre Mundoolun property is one example, with room to do that and more.

Peter Mitchell from Local Realty Group said the property had a huge amount of land, which is hard to come by.

“The sellers moved away a few years ago and thought they would return, but they decided not to come back as they have found another home,” he said.

“With no neighbours beside you, there is plenty of room to move.”

“It’s perfect for nature lovers, horse lovers with it’s own private arena and for people who are after a space for green living.”

This “green living” lifestyle has become the way of life for many, since Covid.

Greg Smith and his family downsized from a 4-bedroom rental to a tiny home on wheels on a 6-acre property in Logan in 2019, with hopes of creating a more sustainable green lifestyle.

“We had a loss in the family that brought our focus back to family and experiences. We were spending so much time focusing on work that we felt like we were leaving our loved ones aside. So, we changed that,” he said.

“We had no idea Covid was about to hit and it made difficult to get out and travel but being in the tiny house made lockdowns and home experiences easier for us.”

Since then, Mr Smith and his family have learned how to grow their own food.

“We have since learned to grow a good majority of our own food. We have chickens and ducks that also help us keep costs of food down,” he said.

“The tiny house has helped us save on all the utilities, it’s a smaller space so it doesn’t use as much.”

“We also try not to waste anything. Food scraps go to chickens, ducks, worm farm or compost. We live off tank water and repurpose our grey water, through careful filtering and use of organic cleaner, to our garden.”

Mr Smith said since moving over to the lifestyle, they had more freedom.

“Freedom with our money, freedom with our weekends and freedom to do what we want,” he said.

He urges more people to do the same for their family.

“Our tiny house and homesteading lifestyle are everything to us now,” he said.

The Mundoolan property has more opportunities, depending on which way the new owner wants to take it. It’s at 498-506 Mundoolan Road.
