The federal government is committed to implementing our response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
With additional commitments made in December 2021, we are now investing more than $18.3 billion into aged care reforms through our five pillar five year plan. This plan is about ensuring senior Australians receive the care, respect and dignity they deserve.
These reforms will make a once-in-a-generation change to aged care.
As a key recommendation of the Royal Commission, the Government established the Council of Elders. This is part of new governance arrangements arising from our reforms.
The role of the Council will be to consult with senior Australians to provide advice to Ministers on a range of matters including aged care quality and safety, the needs of senior Australians and their families and carers and the rights and dignity of senior Australians.
Importantly, the Council of Elders will play a critical role in making sure that those most central to the aged care system, senior Australians, have significant input into shaping the future of aged care.
Your feedback is vital to making sure we get the future of aged care right. Through the Ageing and Aged Care Engagement Hub you can help drive change in aged care in Australia.
You can visit the Engagement Hub to read about the reforms, participate in engagement activities, and sign up for regular updates: www.agedcareengagement.health.gov.au.
Right now, the ‘Communicating with the home services sector’ consultation is taking submissions until COB Friday 11 February 2022 on ways in which the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission can improve their communication and engagement with the home services sector across Australia.
