Springwood paramedics have moved into a new $8.1 million station as ambulance crews respond to a growing number of incidents across the wider Logan district.
Queensland Ambulance Service figures show crews across the Logan district averaged 386 incidents a day between July 2025 and March this year, up from 370 a day during the same period a year earlier.
Emergency and urgent incidents rose from an average of 274 to 287 a day, while the number of patients transported by road increased from 290 to 301.
The figures cover the wider Logan ambulance district, not the Springwood station alone.
The new Springwood station is home to 22 paramedics, two Patient Transport Officers and an Officer-in-Charge.
Its vehicle bay can house seven ambulances and two patient transport vehicles, while the building also includes rest and study rooms, upgraded staff amenities and a multi-purpose conference room for training and meetings.
Queensland Ambulance Sercice Assistant Commissioner for the Metro South Region Chris Draper said the replacement station was needed to meet growing demand.
“Our local officers do a tremendous job providing care to Springwood and surrounding communities,” he said.
“This replacement station is now necessary to meet the growing demand for services in the surrounding areas and ensures our officers can continue delivering exceptional care for communities now and into the future.”
Ambulance Services Minister Tim Nicholls said the latest station would support crews as the area continued to grow.
“The new Springwood Ambulance Station gives our frontline crews a modern, purpose-built base that will support the growing needs of this community for decades to come,” he said.
Mr Nicholls also accused the former Labor government of failing to fully fund the project.
“Labor didn’t fully fund the construction of this ambulance station, forcing the Queensland Ambulance Service to strip money from maintaining existing assets just to finish the job,” he said.
However, the project predated the change of government in October 2024.
The 2022–23 Queensland Capital Statement listed a “Springwood Ambulance Station redevelopment” at $5.5 million, rising to an $8.1 million relocation the following year.
By the 2024–25 budget, the total estimated cost was $8.089 million, with $242,000 spent to June 30, 2024, $6.012 million budgeted for that year and $1.835 million for later years, although the planned spending did not occur on that timetable.
In July 2024, parliamentary estimates were told planning, design and early works were continuing.
The 2025–26 Capital Statement recorded $1.304 million in cumulative expenditure to June 30, 2025, while maintaining the $8.1 million total, with $3.444 million budgeted for 2025–26 and $3.352 million for later years.
After taking office in October 2024, the State Government continued the project and opened the new station in June 2026.
The station is now operational.
