A Flagstone road already carrying about 12,000 vehicles a day is set for new traffic lights as one of Logan’s biggest growth areas prepares for tens of thousands more houses and residents.
The Homestead Drive, Teviot Road and Glynton Road junctions sit within the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area, which Economic Development Queensland says is expected to provide about 51,500 dwellings for up to 138,000 people over 30 to 40 years.
Early works have started at the intersection, where Logan City Council plans to realign the roads and create a new signalised intersection.
Logan mayor Jon Raven said traffic at the site was expected to increase as more houses were built nearby.
“Right now, about 12,000 vehicles use Teviot Road at this spot each day, but we know that number will keep growing as more homes are built in the area,” Cr Raven said.
“This upgrade is about making the intersection safer and easier to use.”
The upgrade will include traffic lights, extra turning and through lanes, a left-turn slip lane from Homestead Drive onto Teviot Road and a connection to the new Teviot Road extension to the south.
Cr Raven said early works were under way, including clearing, fencing and other preparation work.
“We’re also moving and upgrading underground water services now to ensure the roadway is ready for what comes next,” he said.
“Main construction works, including the installation of new traffic lights, is planned for later this year.”
The council’s project information says the upgrade will also include a new centre median, on-road bike lanes, line marking, concrete paths on part of Homestead Drive, vegetation clearing and the relocation of water, electricity, telecommunications and gas services.
Cr Raven said the council-funded project was part of broader road planning across Greater Flagstone, including improvements to Teviot Road, Crowson Lane, the Goodna Road Bypass and the New Beith Road extension.
The council said some delays were expected during main works because of lane closures and traffic management.
The project is intended to improve access to Flagstone Central, nearby businesses and the future Riverbend community.
Cr Raven said the council would keep the community updated as the project progressed, particularly on timing and traffic impacts.
